Prof. Dr. M. Pilar Laguna qualified in medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), in 1979. Following completion of her training in urology, she joined the medical staff at hospital del Sagrado Corazon and later at Fundacion Puigvert in Barcelona. She was appointed Chairperson at the Department of Urology of the Hospital Gral. La Mancha Centro in Alcazar de San Juan in 1995 and moved in 2000 to the Netherlands. In 2014, she was appointed Professor of Uro-Oncology in the AMC University Hospital of Amsterdam and later on at Istanbul Medipol University, where she works currently.
Prof. Laguna is the current Chairperson of the European Association of Urology (EAU) Testicular Cancer guidelines panel and the Chair of the Institutes and Scholarships office of the Société Internationale d’Urologie (SIU). She is also the Chair of the Ablative Working Party of the EAU Section of Uro-Technology (ESUT). Her main interest is on renal and testicular cancer. She has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles in the field of urology, with special focus on minimally invasive therapies and uro-oncology. She is co-editor of a book on testicular cancer and of more than 20 book chapters. She is part of the editorial board of European Urology and the Urological Survey Section of The Journal of Urology.
