Prof. Dr Tarik Esen completed his medical degree at University of Istanbul Medical School in Istanbul, Turkey in 1984 and finished his residency in urology in the Dept of Urology of the same institution in 1990. During his residency he worked in Mainz and Mannheim Germany as DAAD and Alexander v Humboldt scholar on topics like second generation ESWL, flow cytometry and laparoscopic treatment in urological tumors. Dr Esen was nominated to associate professor in 1994 and to full professor of Urology in 2000 in University of Istanbul . Between 1996-98 he spent two years in the Dept of Urology at Heidelberg University, Mannheim School of Medicine as a full time faculty member. From 2000 to 2006 and from 2006 to 2008 Dr Esen served as Secretary General and President of Turkish Association of Urology respectively. He was also active as Board Member of European Association of Urology during the years 2006-2013 in the capacity of Chairman of the Professions Allied to Urology, Residency and Young Academic Urologists Offices .
Between 2014-2017 Prof. Esen served as Associate Dean of Koç University School of Medicine that he had joined in 2011 as a founding member. Since 2002 he is also the Head of the Department of Urology in American Hospital, Istanbul . His clinical practice has focused mainly on uro-oncology, including robot-assisted ,laparoscopic and open surgical treatment modalities of prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular tumors with more than 100 publications on the subject.
